How Experience Points and Levels Work
Experience Points is the primary measure of growth in QuestLore. Every time an employee completes a quest and it is approved by a reviewer, they receive Experience Points. Accumulating enough Experience Points causes a member to level up, reflecting their growing skills and contributions.
Levels are displayed on member profiles and on the dashboard leaderboard, giving the team a transparent view of everyone's progress.
Level Progression
QuestLore uses a progressive, non-linear leveling system. Earning your first few levels is quick and rewarding, giving new members a sense of early momentum.
However, each subsequent level requires considerably more Experience Points than the previous one — the gap between levels grows larger as members advance. This design ensures that high levels are a genuine mark of sustained achievement and cannot be reached through a brief burst of activity.
Think of it like climbing a mountain: the first steps are accessible to anyone, but reaching the summit demands real dedication.
Quest Experience Points Rewards
The Experience Points earned from completing a quest depends on two factors: the quest's difficulty level and the completing member's current level.
- More difficult quests award substantially more Experience Points.
- The reward scales with member level — higher-level members earn a greater Experience Points bonus for completing the same quest.
This means every quest remains meaningful regardless of how experienced you are. A veteran employee completing an Easy quest will earn more than a newcomer completing the same task, keeping the system fair and motivating at all levels.
Experience Points Rewards by Difficulty
Experience Points rewards increase significantly across difficulty tiers. Expert quests award far more Experience Points than Easy quests, reflecting the greater effort and skill required.
When creating a quest, the difficulty badge is your clearest signal of its value. Challenging yourself with Hard and Expert quests is the fastest path to leveling up — though the review bar is proportionally higher.
What Happens When You Level Up
When a member accumulates enough Experience Points to reach the next level threshold, they level up automatically. A level-up triggers:
- An in-app notification congratulating the member.
- An optional email notification (configurable under Profile → Settings → Notifications).
- An immediate update to the member's profile level badge and leaderboard rank.
Reviewers also earn a small Experience Points bonus when they approve a submission (see the Peer Review article), which means active reviewers level up faster too.
